Carole Blade – Creative Producer for Dance in Wales

Carole Soft Colour Lightened  001Her interest in dance began as a child in Cardiff where she spent most of her teenage years performing with many well respected companies. After completing her training at The Laban Centre, she returned to Wales and continued to work as a freelance dance artist for more than a decade and had the privilege of working with many great artists including Kei Takei, Lloyd Newson, Pete Purdy, Anthony Van Laast, Rafael Bonachela and Wendy Houston. In her role as a dance producer she has worked with inspiring artists such as: Javier de Frutos, Peter Greenaway, Lea Anderson and Toni Mira and has also commissioned the work of Charlotte Vincent, Jasmin Vardimon, Protein Dance and Nigel Charnock.

In December 2011, Carole was appointed the Creative Producer for Dance in Wales, selected through an open tender process by the Arts Council of Wales. Carole launched Coreo Cymru, (Creative Producer for Dance in Wales) in partnership with Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff where the project is now based, since January 2012.

Carole’s broad background in dance has given her a strong foundation and a wealth of experiences from which to draw. She has  first-hand knowledge of the sectors´ history and many valuable contacts. She has developed the Coreo Cymru programme with an awareness of the Welsh dance sector´s past but very much rooted in the present with an eye to the future.
