Gwyn Emberton

Award winning Gwyn Emberton Dance is the contemporary dance theatre company created by independent Welsh dance artist, and Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Coreo Cymru 2015 associate artist, Gwyn Emberton.

The company brings together the highest calibre of dancers, composers and designers, creating visually rich and deeply affecting work with literature and film as its main inspiration. Gwyn Emberton Dance is becoming increasingly recognised for work that explores the human existence in a wholly original and accessible way with an emphasis on high production values.

After many years based in London and Israel Gwyn returned to Wales in 2012 where he set up Gwyn Emberton Dance. He is an associate artist of Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Chapter’s creative producer programme, Coreo Cymru and has growing links with Greenwich Dance Agency, Swindon Dance and Pavilion Dance South West.

2014 saw the creation of My People, Gwyn’s first first work he created in Wales. The work was a co-production with Aberystwyth Arts Centre and supported by Arts Council of Wales, The Kevin Spacey Foundation and many individual supporters. It was considered a ‘Soaring debut’ with duet from the piece The Devil in Eden winning the Ann Sholem and Roy Campbell Moore Award at Wales Dance Platform 2014. My People was also nominated for a Wales Theatre Awards in the same category as CAITLIN that Gwyn co-devised, performs and coproduces alongside Eddie Ladd and with Deborah Light directing which won the Best Dance Production.

Both My People and CAITLIN will be part of Edinburgh Festival 2015 with the support of Arts Council of Wales, Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Chapter and Coreo Cymru.

Gwyn has danced with many of the UK leading choreographers such as Akram Khan, Matthew Bourne, Jasmin Vardimon and with Scottish Dance Theatre, also spending three years working with Inbal Pinto in Tel Aviv, Israel. He also recently performed in Judith Roberts’s Macbeth and with Karol Cysewski.
