Up & Over It

Into the Water

Internationally renowned folk-dance duo Up & Over It, present an immersive adventure for the whole family through dance, percussion and video. With music by British nouveau folk artists, this foot-stomping, hand-tapping show reinvents folk dance in a fresh and innovative way.

Drawing inspiration from northern European folklore and dance traditions, this modern retelling unfolds when two people, washed up on a magical wasteland, find their feet through made-up games and folk-filled fun. This playful hour transports audiences of all ages to a dreamlike world where anything is possible and friendship is everything.

They twist and turn, they play and fight, they drum and dance into the night. The storm has passed, they’re on their own, what happens next is still unknown.

Into the Water is based on the story of Lyf and Lífþrasir, the only survivors of Ragnarök, the nordic mythological apocalypse. Centred around a magical tree-like structure (Yggdrasil, Tree of Life) the story follows them as they emerge from the roots of tradition, creating their own rituals and games with the strange yet familiar objects and clues they discover.
